Back before Christmas I had my website ‘overhauled’ by the lovely, talented Cath of Phase Creative. I say overhauled, but really, it was more like a knock down and rebuild site of my dreams. She did a glorious job, and along the way we formed a mutual appreciation society.
Then I got to overhaul some of her furniture! She and hubby had purchased a vintage country drinks bar some time ago and had these odd balls pressed upon them as part of the deal. Originally slung in woven cowhide, the stools were looking the worse for wear, uncomfortable after 6seconds and clashed with her other furniture to boot.
A new foam seat was in order, then, and Cath requested a Maaike Special – giving me almost free reign in design and palette
Thinking about what would make Cath happy, there were a few clues. We share a love of spiced yellow (mustard, tumeric and saffron) and those lovely gritty tones of charcoal through nickel. She’s also a pixel girl by trade and compulsion, and I’ve been thinking about pixel art for awhile now. The end result is a sunrise and sunset of yellow skies and partially lit skyscrapers. The clean lines and bold colours add some city sleek design to this country couple, which now have pride of place at the bar.
